Supporting Student Athletes: Resources and Hotlines You Need to Know Student athletes face unique challenges when it comes to their mental health. The pressure to perform, the demands of balancing academics and sports, and the stigma surrounding seeking help can all take a toll on their well-being. That's why organizations like Athlete Resilience Tribute (ART) are so important in providing support and resources for student athletes. In this blog post, we will highlight some of the resources and hotlines that can be a lifeline for student athletes in need. 1. Athlete Resilience Tribute (ART) Website: The ART website is a valuable platform for student athletes to find support, access resources, and engage in activism. It features artwork created by student athletes, which addresses the struggles they face and promotes the message that seeking help for mental health issues is okay. The website also provides links to crisis hotlines and other mental health resources, both on college campuses and in the DC area. 2. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: This 24/7 hotline provides free and confidential support for people in distress, including student athletes. Trained professionals are available to listen and offer guidance. The number is 1-800-273-TALK (8255). 3. Crisis Text Line: Sometimes, it can be easier to reach out for help through text. The Crisis Text Line provides free, 24/7 support for anyone in crisis. Simply text "HELLO" to 741741 to connect with a trained crisis counselor. 4. Active Minds: Active Minds is a national organization that focuses on mental health advocacy and education for college students. They have chapters on many college campuses, providing resources, support, and opportunities for activism. Check if your college has an Active Minds chapter and get involved. 5. NCAA Mental Health Resources: The NCAA recognizes the importance of mental health for student athletes and provides resources to support their well-being. Their website offers information on mental health topics, as well as resources for coaches, administrators, and student athletes themselves. 6.
